Lumbar Radiculopathy
Lumbar Radiculopathy
It refers to irritation and compression of nerve root exiting the spine in the lower back region.
- Lower back pain
- Neurological conditions
– Decreased sensation
– Change in sensation, such as pins and needles and numbness
– Weakness and decreased muscle reflex
Nerve root irritation or compression is commonly caused by:
- Disc herniation
- Spinal stenosis
- Bone spurs
- Send you for medical scan or nerve conduction examination for diagnosis
- Suggestion on having pain relief medication or steroid injection
- Advise to wear a back brace
- Advise to have surgical intervention which might be unnecessary
People may be diagnosed with nerve root irritation by the doctors based on scan or MRI findings and therefore advised to have surgery.
However, in most of the cases despite the imaging findings, the REAL cause is from some other non-nerve structure, such as a muscle or joint in a remote body part, which mimics the symptoms of the nerve root irritation.
By doing a whole-body assessment from head to toes and treatment direction tests, we can often identify and treat the real cause, and make significant improvement in a few sessions.
From our decades of experience, many patients are able to return to their normal life and get back to what they enjoy doing without medication, injection or surgery.
Therefore, do not lose hope even if your doctor declares you need surgery because simple hands-on treatment and exercise program can be the solution of your condition.
Our unique approach includes:
- Comprehensive head-to-toe assessment to find out the causes of your discomfort and all related contributing factors
- Nerve examination to find out whether there is true nerve root irritation
– If there is true nerve root irritation, we will perform neurological technique for treatment and referral as needed
– If there is pseudo nerve root irritation (most of the cases), we will find out the real causes of your problem through whole body assessment and provide treatment targeting the causes - 100% Hands-on treatment to help address any mobility issues related to nerves, muscles and joints
- An individualized home exercise program is prescribed to enable self-management
Generally, the longer you have had the injury, the longer it will take to recover. Most of the time, you may assume things will get better by themselves with enough rest. But this is rarely the case, especially if your pain or other symptoms are stopping you from doing what you normally able to do. So, take action and get back doing what you love as soon as possible.
