The most difficult and time-consuming issue is to find the “correct diagnosis”. Musculoskeletal disorder is not a disease itself but a number 1 quality of life killer.” Up to 90 or even 99% (depending on “population”) of pain was resulted from soft tissue “dysfunction” not “structural damage” (that requires surgery or other drastic medical intervention). Hence you will find Physiotherapy is the most “cost effective” or cheapest solution to your pain.

Stephanie Case Studies

Case 1: mysterious tummy pain

Grace presented to our clinic complained of intermittent tummy pain and even pain with “urination”, went through 20y of multiple “investigations” both in Aus and overseas but nil definite diagnosis was found. The first thought was it could be the typical “pelvic floor/women’s health issue”, but after extensive Physiotherapy treatments, we discovered her source of pain was “abdomen scar tissue” trigger point pai – possibly caused by a complicated delivery 20 years ago. After 6 sessions of abdominal muscle deep tissue release, 20y of mysterious abdominal pain almost gone completely (or at least not as debilitating as before).

Case 2: locked shoulder that resulted from foot tightness?

A man who works in a warehouse presented to Physio clinic complained of strained “right shoulder”, most obvious objective sign was very limited right shoulder rotation range. It was later discovered after 8 sessions that it was his “left foot planter fascia” was the key reason for his limited right shoulder range and pain. After left plantar fascia release, patient was sent home with self left plantar release and orthotics, his right shoulder is good ever since.

Case 3: knee arthritis or not?

A middle age men presented with 2 months old sudden onset of knee pain with “positive” meniscal tear imaging. However the diagnosis was “lat calf dysfunction”, after up to 5 sessions of calf soft tissue release, patient’s knee pain completely resolved and fully functional despite the “positive meniscal tear” imaging.

Case 4: atypical chronic right shoulder pain

A uni student who studies fashion design in her 20s presented to Physio complained of the typical right “shoulder pain” that she attributes with right frequent mouse use. After extensive assessment, it appears that her right shoulder pain was “caused by” her right “calf” tightness! Apparently, the reasoning was because of her fashion project she had to use a “sawing machine” which involves LOTS of right foot paddling activities which over stresses her calf. Interestingly, her body “reacts” by causing “right shoulder” pain. After 5 sessions of right calf release, she was discharged with right calf stretch and advised how to use “foam roller” to manage right calf tightness.
